Milwaukee Brewers (59-37). The Marlins have the ninth-best record in baseball, the Rays the third-best, the Brewers the second-best, and you’ve got MLB hiring Sterling Cooper to produce ads screaming “Level the Playing Field.” For who, the Mets?
The Brewers are actually slightly underperforming their underlying numbers, one of two teams with 60 third-order wins on the books. The offense is once again high-floor, and they’ve been aggressive in trying to keep it that way, promoting Cooper Pratt and Luis Lara in recent weeks to get more offense out of shortstop and right field. The eye wanders to Jesus Made, but while he’s playing well at Double-A, his work doesn’t demand a two-level jump into a division race. I’d be more concerned about a heavily worked bullpen that has a 3.80 ERA and 4.34 FIP over the last 30 days. They have time to figure it out: After taking on the Marlins this weekend, they draw four of the five worst teams in baseball. Maybe that’s what “level the playing field” means?
