This is a running theme in Manfred’s thoughts expressed in this piece. No blatant untruths, nothing like the lies his predecessor would spew, and yet no examination of the whys behind those truths. If Manfred actually wanted the players to get a larger share of revenues -- he doesn’t -- he could propose changes to the game’s rule set, most notably a shorter time to free agency, that would update the compensation structure to better map player pay to player careers, player productivity, player usage. He knows, though, that the current system is best for the most owners, allowing them to pay many of the best baseball players in the world a fraction of their value.
