I think we’re in for another deadline like this. Whether due to the expanded playoffs, the lack of talent on teams that are clear sellers, or the stupendous value of good pre-arb talent, we’re just not likely to see blockbusters that change the standings this year or in future years. There is no controllable star like Juan Soto in 2022; no Hall of Fame starter like Justin Verlander in 2023; no multi-All-Star package like the Dodgers’ trade for Max Scherzer and Trea Turner in 2021. The deadline last year had incredible volume but few bold-faced names or impact, and that’s probably what we’re getting next week.
