Kevin McGonigle: Hits first spring home run
I bumped on this because I could have sworn I saw a McGonigle dinger last week. Turns out games against WBC squads -- McGonigle hit his homer against the Great Britain team -- don’t count in the stats. Yesterday’s blast was 107.5 mph off the bat, the fifth ball he’s hit at 105+ and the tenth at 100+ this spring. The Tigers have to be looking to max out their last guaranteed season with Tarik Skubal, and they don’t have so big an edge on the Royals and Guardians that they can afford to start the season with holes in the lineup. The only relevant question is whether McGonigle is better than Javier Baez. For me, that question has been answered.
