Fail a second test, however, and I find it harder to find the sympathy button. You’ve already let down your team and cost yourself $6 million. Whatever happened the first time, you’re on notice to be extra careful about what you put in your body, innocently or otherwise. Caesar’s DH must be above reproach. Profar, accidentally or intentionally, failed to heed that mantra, and is now staring at a lost season at age 32 and $15 million down the drain.

He’s also looking at a team that may want nothing to do with him. Come a year from now, pending the result of his appeal, Profar will have been a Brave for two years and suspended for 75% of that time. I’m not sure how you walk into a clubhouse in the third year and expect to be part of a team. I’m not sure how you walk back into a ballpark at 34 after barely playing at 32 and 33 and project to be productive.
